Do you like the corals? Just yesterday we talked about the largest coral reef in the world, one that looks from space and is the largest living thing on the planet: the Great Barrier Reef of Australia. Well, it is the only and fortunately do not have to go so far to dive among corals so beautiful. The second barrier reef in the world in terms of size, is the Great Barrier Reef of Belize.
Belize is a Caribbean state and this barrier and is World Heritage as her older sister. Several kilometers far from the mainland so while some secrets are really close at hand others are further away and require a boat trip. Between 40 and 300 meters, more or less. The Belize barrier reef is about 300 kilometers long and is home to hundreds of marine species. After all it is an ecosystem so there is all kinds of corals, fish and invertebrates.
This type of special places requires care. Imagine that the colonial era, when the boats came and went and the Caribbean was a fairly crowded, nobody cared very survival of this marvel. Fortunately today we have more environmental awareness and the area is protected by several natural reserves. Anyway, the cruise ships produce contamination but can not alienate the tourism in this beautiful place. Nobody wants to swim in the famous Blue Hole or stepping on those beautiful white sand cays where you feel in a world of blue and white.
