Today we will travel to one of those places that are truly historic. Will be a long ride that is called the Jurassic Coast. This unique place is south of England and is divided between the counties of Dorset and Devon. The starting point is the Old Harry Rocks at Swanage and Orcombe Point in Exmouth the end of the journey.
Three are the times we’ve been there but not at any time spent beyond the Isle of Portland. This path is like an open book in which they have been recorded 200 million years of history of our planet. The Jurassic Coast is world famous for its amazing geological formations, views breath and cutting its richness in fossils including dinosaur footprints. In 2001 UNESCO recognized cultural value designated World Heritage Site.
Swanage
We began our journey in the town of Swanage, a small town that was born at the foot of the cliffs that are part of this long natural monument. Originally the mining and fishing were the engine of the local economy but from the late nineteenth century they were leaving everything to the tourists. If the weather is not a bad summer destination as it boasts a magnificent beach and all that is expected of a “summer people.”
The short walk from the town to the Old Harry Rocks is about 4 kilometers. These two limestone columns rise in the middle of the sea at a place called Handfast Point. Due to time any of the time we went there but no doubt have their interest.
